The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) launched a dynamic new program
series, POP Thursdays (Photography Off the Prado), on August 16, 2007. These
evening events appeal to a diverse young, urban professional and
artistically in-the-know audience. Each event is hosted by MoPA and features
music, drinks, interactive photography projects and cult films.
Our kick-off event was inspired by MoPA's exhibition, Harry Callahan: The
Photographer at Work, with a screening of the cult classic Dirty Harry. Over
300 guests attended our inaugural event. Some engrossed themselves in the
film by grabbing a seat in our state-of-the-art theater. Others took in the
vibe, enjoying a drink from the cash bar as the film was projected on the
atrium wall and experienced the exhibitions on display. All this for just
the cost of museum admission, $6 general public and free to MoPA members.
Music at POP Thursdays
Each POP Thursday event features 3+ hours of music
provided by Jeff Terich of Treblezine.com. Combining
the beat-oriented flow of a DJ set with the stunning
visuals of the featured film, each POP playlist
provides a synchronized audio/visual experience like
no other. From electro to shoegaze to classic soul to
hip-hop and beyond, it’s an eclectic and unique blend
of music that creates an entirely new soundtrack to a
classic film.
